System Requirements

PST Policy Administrator (PPA) contains two components, a console for constructing and managing policies and PST files, and a service to enforce those policies. Both are installed on the same computer; however the service can continue to run and do its work regardless of whether the console is running or not.

The most important requirement is that MAPI be installed on the computer where you are installing PST Policy Administrator. MAPI is an application interface designed to provide access to Exchange mailboxes and Outlook PST files and is only installed with Outlook or Exchange. So you must install PST Policy Administrator on a computer that also has Outlook or Exchange installed on it.
Below is a summary of the system requirements:

• Outlook 98, 2000, XP (2002) with SP2, 2003 or Exchange 5.5, 2000, 2003
• Microsoft .Net Framework Version 1.1 (installed with PPA if not already present)
• Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP, 2003
• Approx. 50 MB HD Space

NOTE: Microsoft does not recommend installing Outlook on your Exchange server.

NOTE: If you have an earlier version of Outlook (98 or 2000) installed on the computer where you wish to install PST Policy Administrator, you must set the email mode to Corporate Workgroup rather then Internet, otherwise MAPI is not installed. (See Outlook Email Mode for more details)

NOTE: In order to process PST files of the newer format (introduced in Outlook 2003), you MUST have Outlook 2003 installed on the same computer as PST Policy Administrator.

NOTE: If you intend to use Outlook XP on the same computer as PPA, you will need to update your installation to SP3 for Office
