Reclaim printing resources and change your user’s perspective on printing from right to privilege.

Product: PrintControl
Solution:
Print Management
Developer:
Northern
Release:
v2.8

Overview

PrintControl prevents wasteful printing by automating user-based or group-based print quotas. PrintControl maximises printing resources, minimises costs, reduces paper flow and allows you to generate usage reports to maintain optimum efficiency.

  Best Print Management Software
"In the category Best Print Management Software, NORTHERN's PrintControl won one of four Readers' Choice Awards."- Windows & .NET Magazine

The most cost-effective means of minimising printing costs, PrintControl efficiently manages your organisation’s printing resources by automating user-based or group-based printing quotas. System Admin can set quotas on users, groups, and printers as well as filter which documents can be printed.

In most organsations, providing easy access to printing resources is essential. Setting up and sharing printers in a Windows NT or 2000 environment is very simple, a few clicks and your users can print whatever they want, unmonitored and uncontrolled. Printing without discretion becomes common policy. Microsoft NT/2000 operating systems offer no means of controlling the astronomical costs of excessive printing.

Through PrintControl’s Manager, System Administrators have the capability to provide, block and set quotas on what is being printed by an individual user and/or by printer. PrintControl can be configured to carry out a number of different actions when users reach their printing quotas, or at any number of customisable thresholds. These actions can be to send a popup message to the user informing them of their quota status, send an email to the system administrator bringing attention to a locked quota, or take a printer off-line for maintenance and make an entry to the event log. PrintControl's ODBC compliant database logs all printing jobs within your network, allowing easy exports for cost analysis and forecasting reports, as well as offering internal billing flexibility.

Cost is the driving force behind why organisations decide to implement a Print Quota Solution. Without a cap on the number of pages allowed to be printed, users are going to still be negligent with their printing. PrintControl will instantly begin to eliminate the volume of wasted paper, and cut back the costs on paper, toner, and printer maintenance.

PrintControl is capable of monitoring and controlling printing by all users, even those who do not log into your NT/2000 domain. PrintControl offers impressive levels of flexibility by allowing organisations to monitor print resources and create and enforce print quotas within their system from a central management console.

Efficiently managing your organisations Print costs and resources by automating print quotas will instantly provide a return on investment. PrintControl removes unnecessary printing and offers huge costs saving benefits and increased system efficiency.

Feedback

One thing I wanted to iterate, that is of great importance to IT managers is print queuing speed in networks. While the university here is biting off more than they can chew, they will have an immense problem once pay for print begins. These folks are only looking at the financial end of things, and not time in system for users. Without a cap on number of pages allowed to be printed, or kind of documents, I see servers getting bogged down to a virtual halt, while images are being rasterized, huge PowerPoint presentations are being printed, and other stuff downloaded from the Internet. Without printing constraints, my cartridges now only last for 2700 copies, not 5000 as were intended. Long lines of customers waiting for their print jobs will occur, many customers will leave jobs unclaimed as they leave in haste.”
