Northern Storage Suite version
8.5
The greatest release since Northern Storage Suite V8 offers
you many new features, but most of all it offers time. With the latest version, Northern
Storage Suite 8.5, you can work both faster, smarter and with even more accuracy.
Five changes stand out as major new reasons to implement or upgrade to Northern Storage Suite 8.5:
AGING DATA
When only 35% of files are ever re-opened the time is right to make sure your aging data is placed on a suitable type of storage device. Northern Storage Suite has previously been able to report on distribution across users and user groups, volumes and paths, file types and file type groups. Now we’re slicing the data yet a different way, distribution across time. See files not accessed or modified in the last three, months, six months, 12 months or more. Compare different users to each other or different tiers of your storage, then identify stale data and archive it out of the primary file system to secondary storage.
HSM-SUPPORT
With distribution across time you get reports telling you if the time is right to invest in an HSM solution or fine-tune an existing one. This leads us up to the new HSM-support imbedded in version 8.5. Now you can maximize the returns of HSM-solutions with reports showing both physical and logical usage monitoring through HSM-aware quotas and HSM-reporting. Coupled with the deep visibility into aging data, customers can decide which level of storage to use for certain data, and easily align the value of user data with the cost of storage.
MULTI-THREADED SCANNING ENGINE
Assisting you in the battle against time, Northern Storage Suite 8.5 collects data up to five times quicker than before thanks to the new multi-threaded scanning technology. Now even large, complex organizations can get more out of time when scanning of large amounts of data goes swiftly smoothly. The new scanning technology increases stability and in the event of an interruption, the scans will resume from the point they were suspended without losing data that has already been collected.
ENHANCED REPORTING
Now is the time to work smarter. With the new dynamic reporter interface you can customize your workspace to your liking - choose list or graphical display, select which column to sort on and how to sort, and view in bytes or dynamic units. And everything is remembered until your next session.
LIVE EDITING
Last but not least, time can be gained using real-time quota and file block editing. Quota paths can now be added, removed, or modified live. Administrators can also change File Block policies on-the-fly.

Storage Suite towards Windows devices who wish to begin managing NetApp NAS devices
can take advantage of a platform cross-grade policy.
